Built on the hills overlooking the Dnieper River, the city of Kiev is the capital of Ukraine, Europe’s largest country. With a national growth rate hovering around 4% for the past three years, Kiev has a promising future. Ukraine offers many interesting sectors to Canadian businesses seeking to enter its markets: agrifood (a rapidly growing sector with significant equipment needs), environment (following a law enforcing energy standards for buildings), transportation and fashion. There are plenty of opportunities to diversify our current Canadian exports, which are mostly machinery, agro-food products and aerospace. Although facilitated by a Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA), this market is quite demanding and the help of a local contact is required to better understand the customs of the people.
